SPANIGLOTA

Bilingual Spanish-English Music and Storytelling for Families in Melbourne

Spaniglota is a bilingual Spanish–English music and storytelling project for children, families and communities. Through songs, movement, play and participation, I create joyful experiences that encourage Spanish language learning, creativity and connection.

Songs in Context

Spaniglota songs are designed to be part of a broader learning experience. Each song is paired with movement, storytelling, games, creative play or literacy activities that help children engage with language in meaningful and memorable ways.

Children might count and jump while learning numbers, explore colours through movement and visual prompts, or sing about a hungry caterpillar after sharing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Through repetition, participation and play, children build vocabulary, confidence and cultural awareness while having fun.

La oruga muy hambrienta / The Hungry Caterpillar.

Learning experiences may support:

  • Language and literacy development

  • Communication and oral language skills

  • Numeracy through music and movement

  • Creativity and self-expression

  • Social and emotional wellbeing

  • Intercultural understanding

  • Confidence, participation and belonging

What Families and Teachers Are Saying

“We were delighted to welcome Ximena Abarca from Spaniglota to our kindergarten for a bilingual storytelling and music session. The experience was engaging, interactive, and closely aligned with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), enriching our kindergarten program through meaningful opportunities for children to explore language, culture, music, movement, and storytelling.

Children enthusiastically participated in cognitive, physical, and creative learning experiences while being introduced to the Spanish language in a fun and inclusive way. Ximena's warm and engaging approach fostered curiosity, confidence, and active participation, making the session a valuable and memorable learning experience.”

— Linda, Kinder teacher at Pelican Coburg
